And you won't screw things up...the worst that will happn is the machine balk at starting and giving you three beeps saying it oblects to the memory. However, it really should not do that since the memory is all approved to start with.

You can have any size, any brand RAM together, as long as it’s the same DDR. DDR3 won’t work with DDR4 slots and so on because the ports are shaped differently. If your computer for some reason has two different DDR type RAM slots, then you can do that, but I think I read somewhere that that might degrade your computer performance.
While two sticks of memory may work from two different manufacturers, it's best to match the memory exactly down as much as you can. Down to the model number is best.
